Light golden cuff reveals pre-colombian heritage.

The stunning, wide golden bracelet reveals Mitos’ pre-colombian heritage. Around 900 BC, ancient Latin American civilizations developed their metallurgical techniques by hammering gold into fine sheets which could be cut with stone shears.

Mitos’ cuff draws on the same traditions and craft. Rustic hammer marks in the metal underline the handmade quality of the bracelet that despite the size feels amazingly light with soft curving edges.

Winter collection 2010-2011 - amethyst rings

Oval rose amethyst rings in silver and gold (76MR32-48S).

Since antiquity
the amethyst has been one of the most prized and commonly used gemstone in the quartz family for making jewelry and hardstone carvings. The stone has a remarkable ability to split light into a spectrum of colours.

Roman naturalist Pliny the Elder believed quartz to be permanently frozen water, and the same idea is reflected in the word crystal which derives from the Greek word for ‘ice’. Through the ages the gem has been attributed with mystical properties. The Greeks believed amethyst could prevent intoxication. The Chinese prescribed amethyst for stomach pains and bad dreams. And medieval European soldiers wore amethyst amulets protection in battle – as amethysts were believed to heal people and keep them cool-headed.

Today gemstones jewellery is mostly used as an elegant, eye-catching beauty remedy and a form of personal adornment.

The amethyst rings that form part on Mitos' winter collection 2010-2011 can be ordered from brand selling stores

”El oro es el sudor del sol”

Gold is the sweat of the sun
”Mitos” is the Spanish word for “Myths” – an important notion with the South American Indians who spiritualized nature around them.  To them, gold was the sweat of the sun and silver the tears of the moon. You will recognize the same fascination with nature and respect for its raw materials in Miryam Stenderup’s jewellery design, which elegantly expresses her Columbian background in a refined, light Scandinavian style.

Preview our winter collection 2010-2011 - amethyst earrings

Silver and gold plate amethyst earrings (75ME23-6 ) ranging in hues from from a light pinkish violet to deep purple.

According to ancient beliefs the stone protects its owner against intoxication. The name of this quartz varierty comes from the Greek word "amethystos" meaning "not drunken". In Greek mythology, the wine god Dionysus pursued a beautiful young girl called Amethystos, who refused his affections. Amethystos prayed to remain chaste, and the goddess Artemis answered her prayers by transforming her into a white stone. As a tribute and offering, Dionysus poured wine over the statue and dyed the crystals purple.

Mitos' winter collection will be available in Danish stores from next week.
